IAGC Working GroupsThe IAGC supports small independent Working Group meetings that cover a narrow range of thematic topics, but also foster a personal and laid-back atmosphere. These meetings are held at regular intervals in interesting cities around the world. All IAGC members receive discounted member rates to all of our Working Group meetings. |
The First International Symposium on Water Rock Interaction (WRI-1) was convened in September, 1974 in Prague. Since then, the symposium has been held every 2-3 years. Beginning in 2019, WRI and AIG joined together to form the IAGC International Conference |
The Applied Isotope Geochemistry (AIG) Working Group has organized highly successful biennial conferences focused broadly on the field of applied isotope geochemistry and biogeochemistry. Recently, AIG meetings have been held together with WRI meetings and designated as IACG meetings. The first of the combined meetings was held in Tomsk, Russia in 2019, the second in Sendai, Japan in 2023, and the most recent (IAGC-3) in Cagliari, Sardinia in 2025. Chair: Neus Otero (notero@ub.edu) |
The GES Working Group brings together world-leading scientists in all fields of surface geochemistry and environmental geochemistry. The conference has a strong focus on interactions between the Earth’s spheres: the lithosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and biosphere, and how these interactions respond to changing environmental and climate conditions. |
The Environmental Geochemistry working group has organized the International Symposium on Environmental Geochemistry (ISEG) since the late 1980s. The initial local symposium was held in Finland. After that, plans were made to organize a regular international symposium series. The discussion between Olle Selinus of Linneaus University, Sweden (formerly Geological Society of Sweden) and Prof. Mats Olsson of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala led to the first truly international ISEG symposium. No organization was behind this conference, but from the beginning a core group of three geochemical scientists provided leadership to these symposia: Prof. Iain Thornton, Ron Fuge and Olle Selinus. The most recent ISEG conference was held in Aveiro, Portugal in 2025. Chair: |
The Working Group on Urban Geochemistry was established in 2007 to take advantage of the increasing interest in urban geochemistry globally. With numerous individual projects being carried out by many different organizations (Geological Surveys, universities, and cities), there is an obvious need for a common arena for exchange of scientific results, and to demonstrate the practical use of geochemical data for city planning and for environmental health. |
